Minutes after receiving a phone call and leaving his girlfriend’s house, a 24-year-old man from Santa Cruz was gunned down.

The victim was identified as Justin Weekes of Lp. 52 Donald Avenue, Sam Boucaud Road, Santa Cruz.

A police report stated that at about 8:45 pm on Wednesday Weekes was at the home of his girlfriend at Sampson Terrace, Donald Avenue, Sam Boucaud Road, Santa Cruz, when he received a telephone call and left. Shortly after, gunshots rang out and two men were seen running, then entering a white Nissan Almera.

Weekes was discovered dead by police officer; his body was found lying along a track on the southern side along Sam Boucaud Road.

The scene was processed by the North Eastern Division Crime Scene Unit and four spent 9 mm shell casings were recovered.

And in an unrelated incident, at about 8:15 on Wednesday evening, police officers responded to a report of a shooting at O’Connor Street, Paria Main Road, Blanchisseuse.

There, they found the body of a man lying motionless and bearing gunshot wounds to the head.

The victim was later identified as 31-year-old Sherwin Maharaj of O’Connor Street, Paria Main Road, Blanchisseuse.

One spent 5.56 shell casing and one live 5.56 ammunition were recovered by police officers on the scene.

Police said Maharaj was last seen alive at his home at 7.30 pm.

No motive has yet been established for both murders.

Investigations are ongoing.
