The bloody weekend of gun violence continued on Saturday evening, as two men were murdered in Trincity and Arima, while two others were wounded.

In the first incident, police said residents of Dinsley Gardens, Trincity, said they heard several gunshots at around 4.30 pm.

When they felt it was safe to check, neighbours followed where the sound emanated from and found the body of Marcus Edwards, 33, slumped on a chair at his home on Sooknanan Trace. They called police, who along with the District Medical Officer, confirmed Edwards was shot several times about the body.

Officers said spent shells were found on a nearby chair, on the floor and in the yard of Edwards’ home

Later on, shots rang out on Temple Street, Arima, at around 7.45 pm.

The bullets fatally struck 28-year old Junior Cuddling, who lived a short distance away. Another man, Andrew Lawrence was also hit during the attack. Both men were taken to hospital, but Cuddling was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Arima Health Facility.

In another incident on Saturday being probed by Homicide officers, Carlon “Two-Face” Joseph was wounded following an apparent drive-by shooting.

Joseph was reportedly standing in the roadway along 9th Street, Malick, Barataria, when he spotted a Nissan Tiida driving along the street. Gunshots were then heard and Joseph alerted those close to him that he had been shot as he fell to the ground.

He was taken by a passer-by to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the lower back.

Earlier on Saturday, Richard Marquez was driving through Never Dirty, Morvant, when he heard several gunshots.

Marquez then realised he had been hit in the neck by a bullet. He was taken to Port-of-Spain General Hospital by a passerby, where he received treatment. His injury was said to be non-life-threatening and he was resting in a stable condition yesterday.

These incidents raised the murder toll for the year to 246, 40 less than the 286 murders recorded at the end of August 2020.
