A 38-year-old man was shot and killed in Morvant on Sunday night.

The victim has been identified as Hasan Sanchez of #50 Granado Street, Sawmill Avenue, Morvant.

According to a police report, at about 10:55 pm, officers responded to a report of a shooting at Sawmill Avenue.  Upon arrival at the scene, police found Sanchez lying motionless on the roadway.  He had been shot multiple times about the body.

And in an unrelated shooting incident, a 62-year-old man of Thompson Trace, Laventille Extension Road, Morvant, accidentally shot himself while hunting in the Las Cuevas forest.

Police said at about 3:45 pm the victim, being the holder of firearm user license and owner of a black six-shooter Bernelli Shotgun, was hunting in the Las Cuevas forest off Rincon Road, in company with other people when he left them to hunt in another area.

One of the hunters told police he heard gunfire and later heard the victim calling for help.

He said when he went to his friend’s aid, his friend told him that he slipped and fell and was shot on the left side of his face by his own shotgun.

The victim was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was treated and is resting in a stable but serious condition.

Cpl Francis went to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital and obtained a medical certificate on behalf of the victim.

The victim’s FUL, shotgun and four rounds of 12-gauge cartridges were retrieved and currently are lodged at the Maracas Bay Police Station.
