Two warded after crashing while running from police

A Jamaican national was among two men who ended up in hospital when the vehicle crashed after a police chase for failing to stop in police roadblock exercise.

The two men who are warded at Sangre Grande Hospital.

Police reported that around 6 pm Sunday they were conducting roadblock exercise in the Matura district using the ZBB-X-ray vehicle when a grey Hyundai motor vehicle registration PDC 4801 with two occupants were stopped and asked to drive through the scanner but sped off.

A chase ensued which was proceeding south along the Toco Main Road when reaching the vicinity of the squatting village at Vega de Oropouche, the vehicle with the two occupants overturn and crashed into a wire fence on the Western side of the roadway.

Both occupants received injuries and were taken by police and convey to Sangre Grande Hospital, where they were treated and warded.

Police tracing led them to the discovery that the driver of the vehicle was a Jamaican national.

The vehicle was searched by police and nothing illegal was found.

Also in the exercise 53 stop and search forms were filled out and three fixed penal tickets issued.

The exercise was coordinated by Senior Superintendent Augilal supervised by ASP Gabriel Joseph and included Sgts Renne Katwaroo, Garcia and police officers from Eastern Divisional Task Force, Sangre Grande, Matura and Valencia stations.
