The United National Congress (UNC) has named five additional candidates to contest the General Elections this year, following an intense screening process over the past week.

In an official statement, the party notes that the Screening Committee has interviewed “numerous nominees from various economic, social, ethnic, academic, and religious backgrounds, reflecting the national traction which the United National Congress continues to build ahead of the 2020 General Election”.

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar SC MP, Political Leader of the UNC, made the announcement of the party’s latest candidates, during the party’s second virtual rally, last night.

The Opposition Leader also shared more of the UNC’s proposed National Economic Transformation Plan, which she revealed includes significant development goals for the East-West corridor.

The candidates announced at last night’s virtual meeting will be contesting seats primarily West Trinidad.

She is the founder of the “Just Be Active Academy” which focuses on children ages 3 to 7 years old and introduces them to various sports and outdoor activities. Marsha has also authored a children’s book entitled “If I Can, You Can Too,” which tells the true story of some of our local heroes in a child-friendly manner,” the UNC release said.

The party has selected John Ricardo Laquis for the Diego Martin Central seat, “experienced businessman and community activist, who has over 40 years of experience in the marine and automobile sector”.

The release adds: “For Diego Martin North East, the UNC northwest Coordinator and popular businessman in west Trinidad, Eli Zakour, has received the nod.
