Candidates for five Local Government electoral districts, including Morne Coco/Alyce Glen, filed their nominations yesterday ahead of by-elections to be held later this month.

This after Symon De Nobrega was elected as a member of parliament for Diego Martin Central in the August general election.

PNM candidate Jinelle Schulere-Smart who arrived at the Diego Martin Central Secondary School around nine on Monday morning, with a small contingent of supporters to file her papers, said she is aware of some of the issues facing the residents and she is hoping to build on the work that De Nobrega started, in a bid to resolve those issues.

“We have some infrastructural deficiencies for example drainage, roadways, and so forth, water shortages as well, so YES we are aware that there are a couple of issues that need to be addressed as any other district”, she said.

Meanwhile, the UNC candidate for the area, John Laquis, who arrived without any fanfare, said while he is aware of the loyalty of the people of Diego Martin to the People’s National Movement, he is hoping that the residents of Morne Coco / Alyce Glen will see the need for better representation.

He said it’s time to move on.

Laquis said, “I just could do the best I can and hope that the people come out and support me. I will like to go in the corporation because it have a lot of stuff around here that they can do and they not doing. And it’s simple it is not million-dollar projects which they seem to like. If anything is twenty dollars or fifty dollars, nah it have to be twenty million that is what they like. Small things will be better for everybody, it will affect people better”.
