Uncle shot trying to end a fight

A man who was attempting to be peacemaker and end a fight between two of his nephews, was shot and wounded on Friday night.

A man who was attempting to be peacemaker and end a fight between two of his nephews, was shot and wounded on Friday night.

According to a police report, at about 9:10 pm on Friday 5 February 2021, the 67-year-old man of Febeau Village, San Juan, was at home when he heard a commotion coming from in front of his house.

The man went outside to check and saw two of his nephews involved in a physical altercation.

The man ran towards them and attempted to separate the two, when he was shot to the right side of the hip.  He was subsequently taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt. Hope (EWMSC) by members of the North Eastern Division Task Force, where he was attended to.  He is said to be in a stable condition.

Meanwhile, police officers are yet to determine a motive into the killing of Amos Jack, of Roy Clarke Trace, Calcutta #2, Freeport, on Saturday 6 February 2021.

Police said at about 3:15 pm, on Saturday, 33-year-old Jack was assisting a man in erecting a tent at St. Mary’s Junction, in the vicinity of Chinee and Nick vegetable stall, when a man approached him and shot him before running off.

The man was described as being approximately five feet eight inches tall, and was dressed in dark coloured clothing, wearing a fisher man hat, tee-shirt, three-quarter pants and had a black ski mask covering his face.

Reports are that Amos Jack attempted to run to the nearby Freeport Health Centre for help but collapsed in the vicinity of the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic church.

Jack was taken to the Couva Health Facility where he was pronounced dead at 4:05 pm.

Police confirm that Jack had been shot in the face.
