An electrical fire left parts of Port of Spain without power between 11:15 AM and 1:15 PM on Tuesday.

The outage affected areas as north as Ariapita Avenue and Park Street, as south as Independence Avenue, as east as Woodford Square and as west as Wrightson Road.

According to senior officials at the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service (TTFS), officers attached to the Wrightson Road Fire Station responded to the report of a fire at the Master Sub-Station located at Park Avenue, near PowerGen.

Fire appliances responded within a minute of the report from T&TEC, and the blaze was extinguished in 20 minutes.

While the cause has not been determined, the fire involved an electrical panel of an estimated value of $250,000. Damage is estimated at $100,000. The TTFS is conducting investigations under the supervision of AFCO Boodoo.

PowerGen in Port of Spain had been decommissioned by T&TEC on January 14th, 2016. However, it still houses a 12,000-volt supply at its location, with a 132,000-volt substation.
