The United States Embassy has joined with the Mayaro COVID-19 Action Task Force and has provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) supplies for frontline staffers.

On Saturday, the United States Southern Command Military Office — US Embassy Port-of-Spain — presented County Medical Officer of Health Nariva Mayaro, Dr Klem Ragobar with the supplies.

In a statement, MP for the area Rushton Paray, who set up the Task Force, thanked Col Claudia Carrizales of the US Southern Command and Ragobar for their support. He said the Task Force will continue its work until the virus is eradicated.

Paray also urged all citizens who are medically fit to take the vaccine as soon as possible, noting “herd immunity was the only way back to economic and social progress.”

He said during the handing over ceremony, Carrizales revealed the US Southern Command has provided support through health clinics, military-led training for Police, Fire, Coast Guard and other social programmes over the past few years.

These outreach programmes were part of the United States Embassy in Port-of-Spain’s mandate to promote partnership throughout the region.

In accepting the donation, Ragobar thanked Col Carrizales and the US Embassy for the generous donation and acknowledged the close working relationship between the MP Mayaro Office and the US Embassy.

He also commended MP Paray for setting up the Task Force.

Ragobar praised the hard-working staff at the Eastern Regional Health Authority, noting they all remain committed to stamping out COVID-19 in the region.
