For the second time in as many weeks, vandals have struck at a Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) facility, this time at the Bennett Storage Tank located off John Field Road, Bennett Village.
The result of the vandalism is that WASA customers in Bennett Village, Los Bajos and environs will be without water supplies for a day or two.
An official statement from WASA reports that the perpetrators removed approximately 80 feet of an 8-inch diameter steel pipe that connects the tank to the distribution system, as well as the guard rail around the top of the tank, thereby rendering the facility inoperable.
WASA has given assurances that it is working to replace the stolen pipeline and repair damages to the facility by tomorrow, Friday April 16th, 2021.
The Bennet Storage Tank incident is the latest act of vandalism WASA has had to deal with.
On Monday April 5th, 2021, the electrical system at the Authority’s Fyzabad Well No. 8 was vandalized and parts removed, affecting the supply of water to customers in Fyzabad.
WASA is encouraging members of the public to report all acts of vandalism or suspicious activity they observe at the Authority’s installations, either to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) or WASA’s Customer Call Centre toll free at 800-4420 and 800-4426.
