A Maraval man is expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate today, charged with the murder of 57-year-old Phillip Cummings, which occurred on Thursday 6th August 2020, at the Central Market in Port of Spain.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) confirms that 35-year-old market vendor, SHELDON HYPOLITE (of Cameron Hill, Maraval), was charged with murder, following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC, on Monday 17th August 2020.
According to the TTPS, Phillip Cummings (aka ‘Shakey’), of Never Dirty, Morvant, and another person were at the Central Market, Port of Spain, on Thursday 6th August 2020, when they got into an altercation with a vendor.
During the incident, they reportedly were beaten about their bodies with a piece of wood. Mr. Cummings died at the scene as a result of his injuries, while the other person was taken to hospital for treatment.
A male suspect was held shortly after by officers of the Port of Spain Division in connection with the incident.
The TTPS reports that Sheldon Hypolite was charged by Cpl Phillip, of Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region 1, on Monday 17th August 2020.
Investigations were supervised by Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Joseph Chandool and W/Supt. Suzette Martin, both of the HBI Region 1.
