Venezuelan national charged with assault

Venezuelan national Deivis Miguel Diaz-Marin was fined $3,500 when he appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate (Ag.) Jo-Anne Connor at the Scarborough First Magistrates’ Court charged with assault. The following is a press release from the TTPS:

DEIVIS MIGUEL DIAZ- MARIN was fined $3,500 and was placed on a bond of $2,000 to keep the peace for six months or in default three months hard labour, when he appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate (Ag.) Jo-Anne Connor at the Scarborough First Magistrates’ Court on Monday 11th October, 2021. The 34-year-old Venezuelan national who pleaded not guilty, was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The accused must pay $ 1,000 before 29th October, 2021 and pay the balance in three months. Around 10 pm on Friday 3rd September 2021, a woman was in the living room of her apartment with some friends, when the accused, who was outside, started calling her on her cell phone. The woman ignored the calls, then the accused entered the apartment, approached the woman and they started to argue.

The accused became angry walked into a bedroom, picked up some keys and began hitting the woman on her leg and face. During the assault he also grabbed and pulled her hair. A report was made to the police on Saturday 4th September, 2021, enquires were conducted which led to the arrest of DIAZ-MARIN on Monday 11th October, 2021. Investigations were supervised by Supt. Claire Guy-Alleyne, W/ASP (Ag.) Francis and W/Insp. Williams.
