Woman arrested as cops rescue Chinese national

The Police Service has confirmed that a female suspect was arrested for a robbery which occurred at a supermarket on Charlotte Street, Port of Spain, this morning.

The Police Service has confirmed that a female suspect was arrested for a robbery which occurred at a supermarket on Charlotte Street, Port of Spain, this morning.

According to an official statement from the TTPS, in the early hours of this morning, officers of the Emergency Response Patrol (ERP) Unit received a report of robbery at a supermarket located at the corner of George and Prince Streets.

Upon arrival, the officers saw a group of individuals who escaped through the Plannings.  The officers gave chase and recovered a 44-inch flat screen television, which was reported missing from the supermarket.

As their investigations continued, the officers returned to the supermarket and rescued the victim, a Chinese national, who was found bound and beaten.  

Additional information led police to a 28-year-old woman, of Upper Layan Hill, Belmont, whom they arrested in connection with the robbery.

Officers of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) are continuing investigations.
