A 19-year-old woman will appear in a virtual hearing before the San Fernando First Magistrates’ Court today, charged with manslaughter in the stabbing death of Stephon Ramnarine.
An official statement from the Police Service reports that NANYAMKA WORRELL (also known as ‘Mama’) was charged with manslaughter on Friday 18th December 2020, following the advice of Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC.
Worrell was arrested and charged relative to the circumstances surrounding the stabbing of STEPHON RAMNARINE, which occurred on Sunday 13th December 2020, at Hope Street, Tarodale.
The TTPS release notes that around noon on Sunday 13th December 2020, Ramnarine and Worrell went to a home at Hope Street, Tarodale, Ste Madeleine, where they were liming. It is alleged that sometime between 4 pm and 5 pm, Ramnarine and Worrell got into an altercation during which Worrell allegedly stabbed Ramnarine on his left shoulder with a knife.
EHS personnel were contacted and they conveyed Ramnarine to the San Fernando General Hospital. However, Ramnarine succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 5:55 pm. The body was then taken to the San Fernando General Hospital Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination at the Forensic Science Centre.
Investigations were supervised by Supt (Ag) Sean Dhillpaul, ASP (Ag) Figaro and Insp Persad with the lead investigator WPC Rampersad, all of Homicide Bureau of Investigation (Region Three).
