Woman killed in car crash

A 58-year-old Point Fortin woman is dead after the vehicle she was a passenger in crashed into a light pole along the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway extension. She is identified as Karen Alexis fromĀ  Fanny Village, her son Khadeem, 30, was said to be the driver, he is in a stable condition at the hospital. Police told Guardian Media that at around 1 pm, both were in a grey Nissan Sylphy proceeding along the southbound lane but after passing the Golconda turnoff point, Khadeem Alexis lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a light pole. The impact caused the vehicle to flip over and it came to a halt on the highway’s median. Eyewitnesses told Guardian Media that they believe Karen Alexis was briefly alive following the collision as they heard her groaning inside the car. Fire Officers came with the jaws of life but by then Karen had died. Her son who is said to be a member of the Coast Guard was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital.
