Woman shot in Barataria

A 48-year-old woman was shot and wounded while at her home in Barataria, on Wednesday night.

A 48-year-old woman was shot and wounded while at her home in Barataria, on Wednesday night.

The incident occurred at Upper Ninth Avenue, Barataria.

The victim’s name has not been released.

Police reportedly believe it was a “hit” called on her life, as she is said to be mentally ill, and known for roaming the streets and entering people’s private premises.

According to a police report, at about 7:50 pm on Wednesday 30 September 2020, the woman was in the living room of her home when a masked man stormed in and opened fire on her. The gunman then escaped.

Reports are the woman was shot twice.

Neighbours, on hearing the gunshots, went to her assistance and took her to the Eric Williams Medical Complex, where she was treated.

The woman is said to be warded in a stable condition.

Investigations continue.
