Monday’s COVID-19 related death was the youngest fatality to be recorded locally.

Speaking during a Ministry of Health virtual press conference on Wednesday, Principal Medical Officer in charge of the parallel healthcare system, Dr Maryam Abdool-Richards, indicated that the person was under the age of 25 and had pre-existing medical conditions.

The Ministry’s update on Monday indicated the person was a female.

Dr Abdool-Richards was unable to give further details as to the exact age of the person or the nature of the pre-existing medical conditions under the principle of patient confidentiality.

She, however, reminded citizens once again that no one is safe from an adverse outcome from a COVID-19 infection.

As of Wednesday morning, Monday’s fatality was the latest in the country. Deaths remain at 106.
